Godly Play is designed for 3-5 year olds.

It meets in conjunction with the St George’s Church and Hall, Victor St Birkdale in conjunction with the Family Service on a Sunday at 9am.

Godly Play follows the principle that children learn through play and creativity. At this age we believe that the most important concept for the children to learn is that God has created and loves the world and everything in it.

Stories to tell

A series of bible stories based around the leading of God’s people to the Promised Land and the parables of Jesus are dramatised with figurines. The parable of the Good Shepherd is woven throughout the whole programme. The children are invited to ‘wonder’ about the stories, to search for a meaning which is relevant to them.

Art and craft

A large portion of the morning is spent with the children exploring art and craft activities, hopefully to explore the stories further but always working to their own level of understanding. The children also share the fellowship of a morning tea and have time to build relationships with each other.

Creative thought

Godly Play provides an environment where children feel safe and accepted to think about God, themselves, their family, community and church family. There are no ‘rights’ or ‘wrongs’ and no judgements are made. The children are encouraged to explore their ideas creatively in a way which is respected and respectful of themselves and the others in the group.

It is a happy and joyful group which always welcomes new members. We have a great time.
